| | Description: | Fascinating 15K yellow gold and silver English insect brooch Circa 1860s. Victorians were obsessed with insects and this is a fine example. The insect has a pink topaz body and diamond encrusted wings and tail. The mine cut diamonds weigh an estimated 1ct total weight and the topaz an estimated .80ct. Her legs are yellow gold as are the pin stem and the base of the brooch. The top is set in silver as was customarily done during this time period because it was easier to set and featured the diamonds nicely. The wings are pierced adding shape and dimension. The brooch measures 1 inch long and has a 2 inch wingspan. Lovely to look at and quite a conversation piece!
